Hardin County Correctional Center Overview
The Hardin County Correctional Center is the county jail inside the Hardin County Law Enforcement Center in Eldora. It is operated by the Hardin County Sheriff's Office. The same building also houses the Sheriff's Office and the E911 Communications Center, so jail records, visitor registration, communications, and sheriff administration are closely tied to the Law Enforcement Center.
The county describes the jail as the facility that constitutes the county jail. It holds people charged with state or local crimes, people serving court-ordered county sentences, pretrial detainees, people waiting extradition, and detainees from other agencies under agreement. The county also notes that a person held there may be a state offender waiting return to prison or a federal immigration detainee awaiting deportation, depending on classification.
Hardin County Correctional Center Capacity
The county facility page states that the secure area includes eight pods, three holding cells, a booking room, commissary room, control room, library, and medical office. It lists 90 beds plus room for 8 detainees in holding areas. The same research names three pod security levels: Routine Supervision, Closely Supervised, and Special Status. The jail separates people by gender, court status, and juvenile factors.
Vera county data in the research showed Hardin's jail population near capacity in 2017 and 2018, then lower in 2019 and 2021. The current daily jail population was not published in the official county pages reviewed, and the county roster target could not be inspected during research.
Look Up Hardin County Correctional Center Inmates
The official county footer links "Who's in Jail" to the Hardin County roster target, but that target was unreachable during research. Use it first if it loads. If it does not, call the jail, use Iowa VINE for custody notifications, or request records through the Sheriff's Office. State-sentenced adults should be searched in Iowa DOC Offender Search, while federal sentenced prisoners and immigration detainees may require BOP or ICE channels.
- Try the official county "Who's in Jail" roster link from the county site.
- If the roster fails, call the Hardin County Correctional Center at 641-939-8189.
- Ask whether the person is currently held, whether a bond or hold exists, and which agency controls the hold.
- Use Iowa VINE for custody-status notifications when available.
- Check Iowa DOC, BOP, or ICE locators if local jail staff say the person is not in county custody.

Hardin County Correctional Center Booking
Intake at the Hardin County Correctional Center connects arrest, booking, classification, and housing. The secure area includes a booking room, holding cells, pods, and a control room. Jail staff classify and separate people by security level, gender, court status, and juvenile factors. Classification means the jail decides where and how a person is housed based on safety, supervision, legal status, and other custody needs.
Booking does not decide guilt. It records custody. After booking, court records after an arrest develop through the Clerk of Court and the County Attorney's filing decisions. Bond, detainers, warrants, extradition, immigration holds, and state-return status can all affect whether a person remains at the jail even when a local charge appears bondable.
About Hardin County Correctional Center
The Law Enforcement Center was completed in July 2000 and houses the Sheriff's Office, E911 Communications Center, and Correctional Center. The secure area includes pod amenities such as television, shower, tables, chairs, and telephone access. The county says detainees not under disciplinary action may use those amenities from 6 AM to 11 PM, while night hours require them to remain in individual or group sleeping areas.
Hardin County also documents PREA reporting and facility safety information. The 2024 PREA audit research says the Hardin County Correctional Center operates one facility, has one designated PREA Coordinator, and was found to have a zero-tolerance policy and culture toward sexual abuse and sexual harassment. The county PREA Coordinator listed in research is Deb Mesch at 641-939-8194.
Note: Confirm custody, visit approval, and deposit rules with the jail before traveling or sending funds.
